Meet Kelly
Kelly has lived in South Lake Tahoe for 23 years. As the saying goes, she came for the skiing and stayed for the summers. Kelly worked her way through college and law school at night, while working full time as a police officer and police detective. She has served as a county prosecutor, and as an attorney for large and small cities. She has also served on several Boards, including three terms (six years) on one of the first Police Advisory and Review Boards, where she was the Vice President and co-wrote the policy and procedure manual. She additionally served on a collaborative board that provided services for crime victims of sexual assault, and for six years on a homeowner’s board.
Kelly has received a number of awards for her work as a prosecutor of adult and child sexual assault crimes, and for her work with law enforcement. Kelly has worked in city and county government all of her life. She has also owned a small business, working for and providing legal advice to city governments and high-ranking officials. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Pre-Legal Studies and a law degree. She has the professional experience and integrity necessary to move the City forward during this important time of transition.
Real Issues for South Lake Tahoe
Professionals Running the City in a Professional Manner
During this important time of transition, it is key that the City has competent professionals running a well-functioning city government. It is important that the backgrounds of the elected officials match the needs of the City. Residents want a fully-functioning city government that runs well and serves their needs when services are needed.
Core Services a Priority
Residents need to be assured that basic city services are being provided. Fire and police safety services are key priorities that should not be compromised. After the Caldor Fire, we should constantly be working to improve fire safety and clear evacuation plans, including upgrading emergency community communications. The City’s poor road conditions are also an on-going project that will need future care and priority attention for many years to come.
Stable Economic Development
It takes a stable economy to provide full city services. I am committed to working with business owners, small and large, to improve the City’s economic base through a strong City partnership and through exploring other business mentoring options. We have a current opportunity to explore the best-highest use of the current vacant commercial spaces, and to see how the City can assist the owners with appropriate improvements.
Community Concerns
Over-tourism, over-signage, lack of parking, bear safety, and pedestrian safety are constant concerns of residents. Like many other cities, the City of South Lake Tahoe will need to address these concerns with new ideas and new solutions. Priority enforcement, education, outreach, grants, and community involvement will help mitigate these issues and focus the priorities of the next City Council. I am committed to bringing ideas to the table and working with public and private partners to further solutions to these on-going community needs.
South Lake Tahoe is a Magical Place. Let's Keep it that Way.
